Boost Productivity: 5 Hacks To Achieve What You Want

Watched a ton of “how to boost productivity” videos, took notes of all the apps that will help you stay organized, bought books to learn about and boost productivity and still not able to boost your productivity?

Don’t worry there are so many people that fall into this trap of buying, installing and watching to boost productivity instead of actually working on it.

This is because most people don’t realize that trying to break out of their day-to-day habits using willpower will fail almost all the time. Even if it does work, it is mostly short-term!

Do you have those periods in life where you were adamant that you will stop looking at your phone for too long?

And you did! But then after sometime you went back to looking at your phone more than ever!! This is an example of habit vs willpower.

Looking at your phone is a habit you have cultivated probably for years now. So, to break this habit, instead of slowly countering it with some new and useful habits over the course of time, if you force it through willpower, you are most likely to get back to that habit with much more force!

In this post I will be discussing some actionable steps you can take and inculcate over the course of time so that you can boost productivity in a healthy and long-lasting manner!

Spoiler Alert!! You don’t have to download a bunch of apps or sign up for courses to change your mindset 🙂 Also, I have a surprise for you at the end 😉

5 Hacks To Boost Productivity

In this day and age where how much ever we do is never enough, we are most likely to try and squeeze in everything we can in 24 hours and this can have a negative impact on your well being.

But with a little re-programming in your brain and inculcating habits into your routine, will be able to optimize your day and make time for what is important!

1. Choose a Daily Highlight

The first and most important step to inculcate into your life is picking up a task you are iffy about or procrastinate about, and make it your highlight.

By daily highlight I mean that you will make sure that at any cost you will complete this task everyday. This will be the highlight of your day and your number one priority.

For example, you always wanted to workout but find “no time”. What you can do is incorporate this into your routine by setting a specific time (when are highly active) and doing it everyday (or every other day).

Trust me when I say this, nobody has time to do all that they do without making it!

It is always hard in the first week. Push through it! Remember to make it a routine. No matter how long you do it, do it. It can be a simple 20 minute task or an hour long. Stick to your daily highlight.

This certainly does not mean you won’t be doing anything else! It only means that this will be your priority.

2. Cultivate Long Term Habits

The number one step towards inculcating long term habits is knowing that there will be days where you may not be able to do it.

This also means you don’t set unrealistic expectations and beat yourself up for not achieving everything in one day.

We can access infinite content from all over the world 24/7. These apps are designed in a way to keep you addicted.

If you want to read some books about digital minimalism which I highly recommend, click: books that will change the way you think!

It is so important to understand the root cause of the problem to solve it, which this book does very well! Also, I explain why and How to break the loop of constantly checking your phone, to check that out!

Changing your mindset and taking each day as it comes is key! All you have to do is finish your realistic goals for today!

Not tomorrow or five years later, but today! Just think about what you will do today. This helps a lot.

3. Physical Distancing

Can you believe that there are apps designed to help you stay away from apps! But that’s beside the point I will be making here.

It is most likely that you will not be distracted if you make it physically difficult for you to access those distractions.

Some ways you can achieve this is by staying away from your phone not just physically but by clearing your home screen or maybe setting a timer that will allow you to open these apps after a certain period of time.

Make it a point to not check your emails or notifications before noon or after 6 P.M and stick to it!

Now that you know you are supposed to check notifications after noon, you will be able to focus on the task at hand!

4. Well-Planned Breaks

Breaks are a key to assure yourself that you are being awarded for dedicating time and energy to focus on the essential tasks.

If your work involves a lot of staring at the computer, then make it a point to not look at your phone/computer during these breaks!

Because as it is you are straining your eyes working. But if you take breaks watching some videos, it will not be a break to your eyes!

Go on walks or meditate or paint or listen to a podcast or an audio book. These are soothing to your physical and mental health.

By breaks I mean those that will refresh you from the inside. Sleeping is important! The time meant for eating, sleeping and resting is not up for grabs!

5. Reflecting At The End

This step is crucial in deciding your progress.

If you complete your daily highlight and focus on essential tasks and check your phone when you planned to, the amount of satisfaction is immeasurable.

This will also motivate you to keep up with your routine. In this way, you an cultivate a healthy and long-term habit of “making time” for essential tasks.

This will in turn lead to a boost in productivity like never before! The best part about it is that you don’t have to clench your fist to stay away from your phone!

You don’t even have to play the whole “if I do this task, I’ll reward myself this” Because soon you will realize that the reward lies in the process and not the end product!

  1. Outstanding post Divya. Well done! And I cannot agree more. If you decide to work from home is often misinterpreted as life long island holidays and sport cars! Quite the contrary as I’m sure you will agree. Success takes time and it favors preparation.

  2. These were such helpful tips, I’m a huge procrastinator and staying organized and productive can sometimes be difficult, thanks for sharing

  3. These are great tips! I find prioritizing my tasks in a to do list is my main way that I am productive! Adding the well-planned breaks is a great idea, too. Sometimes I find myself working through the whole day and not even realize what time it is or how long I have been working. I feel like working from home, it is easy to do that. I will definitely working more on taking designated breaks more often. Thank you for sharing!
