Beginner Friendly Pinterest Strategies For Bloggers

If there’s a magical shortcut to getting decent traffic to your blog or website from day 1 with zero following, then it has to be from Pinterest. With these beginner friendly Pinterest strategies, you can get traffic to your new website.

You will agree with me on this if you know anything about Google SEO. As you know, it is generally very hard and takes a long time to get organic traffic from search engines. Pinterest is a visual search engine and like any search engine, with calculated strategies, you can reap the benefits.

Save for later on Pinterest

Pinterest is beyond aesthetic images and food recipies. From smaller businesses to many billion dollar companies like Apple, Walmart, etc. are trying to get hold of Pinterest!

This post talks about how to use Pinterest to drive traffic to your website and how long does it take to get traffic from Pinterest. Having not as many followers does not mean you cannot reach to a wider audience. Also, if you make it to the end, I have an interesting insight about my journey if you care 🙂

Why this popularity and demand?

1. This comes from the fact that, unlike a tweet that has a lifetime of 24 minutes or Facebook post that has a lifetime of 90 minutes, a pin has a lifetime of 1 week!

2. Pins are 100 times more spreadable than a tweet or a post! This is because Pinterest is not a social media platform!

3. As Pinterest is a search engine, the probability of someone finding your pin in the search results is higher than finding a tweet!

1. Business Account Setup

If you want to get serious and use Pinterest to drive traffic to your website, you have to sign up for a business account first. This is absolutely FREE!

The next step is to choose a name for your account and a picture. Fill in your description and make sure you use keywords related to your blog niche.

Claim your website. All you have to do is go to the settings and click on claim your website option. You can claim your etsy store or any other social media too.

2. Pinning Strategies

The most important takeaways while creating, designing and publishing pins:

Pin Size:

Your pins will be promoted more by Pinterest if they are of the recommended size which is 2:3. The second most preferred ratio is 1:2.

Do not publish horizontal pins! Always prefer high quality vertical pins that are eye-catchy and legible.

Pin Design:

Pin Design is the deal breaker. This is because among several hundred pins, you need to make sure a visitor clicks on yours!

Using images that are not human faces have a higher click through rate! Add a text overlay which best describes your blog post.

Make sure that the important parts are all caps and highlighted with a different color.

Color Palette:

Colors that pop make users to click on your pins. Using red, pink, blue and green on your pins makes the text pop.

Do not use all the colors at once. Choose a combination and ensure it is visually pleasing. Learn how you can do this for FREE using Canva with these recommendations.

Branding:

After you have put together a perfect pin design, focus on the branding. What I mean by this is that add a logo or your website name at the bottom so that your pin isn’t used by others without permission.

This is like a copyright but for pins. Your brand logo should be visible but not too big. Put it at the top or bottom of your pin.

Pin Description:

This is very important as Pinterest for bloggers can be competitive. To get your pin noticed by Pinterest visitors, other than the aesthetics, focus on the heading and description.

Make the most of those 500 characters available for a pin description. One way to ensure you have your Pinterest SEO optimization in place is by using the search bar.

Using the words people are typing in would mean that when more people look it up, your pin can pop up.

Hashtags:

Boost your Pinterest SEO strategy by using hashtags. Relevant hashtags increase the chances of exposure.

Do not go overboard with the hashtags. 2-3 that have keywords in them are perfect!

3. Tailwind Tribes

All the best beginner friendly Pinterest strategies will include Tailwind tribes. Tailwind is a Pinterest recommended scheduler that helps you pin at the right time.

Get your Tailwind Pinterest strategy in place by joining Tailwind tribes. These are groups where you can share your pins. It is a great way to start driving traffic from Pinterest.

The best part about this is that if you are iffy about getting a membership, you can try Tailwind for FREE with 100 pins.

4. Pinterest Group Boards

Take your Pinterest SEO strategy to another level by joining Pinterest group boards. This is the best way to use Pinterest in blogging.

There are no secret techniques behind Pinterest group boards to join. Pick a niche and look it up on Pinterest search bar. Sort it by Groups.

Remember to join these Pinterest group boards as a contributor! There will be instructions on how to do so. Follow all the rules.

This usually takes time. Not all boards you apply to will accept you. So, another way to go about this is to create a blog board on Pinterest of your own.

You can set the rules and also invite people. This is the best way to gain followers too!

5. Share Buttons

If you wondered how to pin your blog post on Pinterest in one click, then it is through adding share buttons.

If you look at this post, at the end or on the side, there is a share button. You can easily add this with a plugin. There are a lot of FREE WordPress Plugins that will save a lot of your time.

This ensures that whenever someone finds your post useful, they can pin it or share it with one click. having said that, if you liked this post, please share it 😉

My Pinterest Journey

When I started out, I read and watched a lot of articles and videos about how Pinterest is the best way to start getting traffic. But these were made by already accomplished bloggers. Of course with their 2-3 year experience, they will give necessary and useful tips.

But looking at their numbers, (1-4m monthly viewers, 10k followers, etc.) I was overwhelmed and wanted insights from someone who was fairly new and had a decent amount of traffic.

Also, there is this business advice that when starting out with $0, learning from someone who is making $100 will help you grow more than learning from someone who is making $100,000.

If you are in one of those early stages of blogging aka your first month or planning to get started, then I hope this helped you in any way!

This post was written on August 28, 2020. I bought my domain in June 28, 2020 and it’s been two months exactly! So, this is a proper beginner friendly Pinterest strategies from a beginner. Thank you for reading.
